The idea behind the site is pretty simple. Basically diets don’t really work for several of us. Most of us need something else… A lifestyle change. If we move the focus away from depriving ourselves of some things we love (food + laying around doing nothing) and towards enjoying life more we will be better off. The approach that we will take to looking and feeling better is to find things we love to do that are healthy for us and to encourage portion control.
We won’t be counting calories or keeping track of a ridiculous number of exercises (feel free to do that though if it floats your boat). We won’t even be keeping an arbitrary or scientific point system for food. The secret to losing weight is pretty simple in the end. We need to train ourselves to eat less of the foods we love (aka portion control). The reality is that most of us could easily survive on half of a typical American portion size (many times even less will do). Now in addition to that we will be trying to help you find exercises that you will actually enjoy doing. Believe it or not most of us actually like some activity a peaceful walk, jog, bike ride might be for you OR you might like to join a sports league,etc. You may not think you like any of that but let’s explore all of our options together before you give up.
Think back to what our great grandparents and earlier used to do for dieting, fitness, and weight loss. Shockingly they did not have hundreds of low-fat foods to choose from and multiple kinds of sugar substitutes to “enjoy.” They didn’t have a different type of gym on every street corner to try for a couple of weeks and then abandon. Yet, they had very low obesity rates and problems with their weight. Now, they also didn’t have a ton of processed foods and artificial coloring, etc. Not to mention fast food restaurants McDonalds, Buger King, Pizza Hut, etc. It’s a different time now but some of the same instincts and principles they used will serve us well as we pursue a life of Non-dieting.
This is a community effort and we hope to bring you insightful articles that you can learn from and most importantly relate to. Being healthy and enjoying life is about passion. If you are passionate about the goals you set for yourself, you can and will achieve them and when you need support you can count on our community to be there for you supplying any necessary “will power” (actually just reminding you of what you truly enjoy). Life is a continuous adventure and way too short to live saddled with diets we just don’t enjoy.
